Japanese-Inspired Petty Knife with Walnut Saya
Japanese-Inspired Petty Knife with Walnut Saya
This handcrafted petty knife draws inspiration from the traditional Japanese santoku, blending time-honored design with meticulous craftsmanship. Made from 52100 high carbon steel, also known as ball bearing steel, and hardened to 62 HRC on the Rockwell scale, the blade delivers exceptional sharpness, edge retention, and cutting performance.
The wa-style handle is constructed from stabilized black walnut accented with bird’s eye maple, offering both durability and an elegant aesthetic. A custom-fit saya, made from walnut, protects the blade when not in use. Unlike traditional saya secured with a wooden peg, this sheath employs an embedded rare-earth magnet for a seamless, secure hold.
Each knife is individually handmade and unique, intended for collectors and culinary enthusiasts who value fine craftsmanship and functional artistry.
As with all high-carbon steel knives, the blade will naturally patina over time and should be dried promptly after use to prevent rust.
All knives will be shipped fully insured.
