Japanese-Style Petty Knife – Coffeewood with Saya

$340.00

This Japanese-style petty knife is designed to be the knife you reach for every day, a versatile kitchen companion built for real cooking. With an approximately 6" blade and an overall length of 11", it offers an ideal balance of precision and control. Compact yet capable, it handles detailed prep work with ease while remaining ready for larger kitchen tasks.

The hand-rubbed satin blade is ground from premium 52100 high carbon steel, also known as ball bearing steel. Valued for its fine grain structure, this steel is known for its ability to take and hold an exceptionally fine edge. The blade has been heat treated to 62 HRC, including a cryogenic treatment to enhance wear resistance and long-term durability. The result is a blade that sharpens beautifully and performs reliably through daily use.

The handle is crafted from sustainably farmed Bolivian Coffeewood, a dense, durable hardwood with rich natural character. Brass and black G-10 accents provide subtle contrast, finished with a brass mosaic pin for refined detail. The traditional octagonal WA handle offers a secure, balanced feel in hand during extended use.

A custom Coffeewood Saya (wooden sheath) is included, fitted with an embedded magnet to help securely hold the blade in place. It protects the edge while complementing the knife’s clean, functional aesthetic.

As a high carbon steel blade, 52100 will naturally develop a patina over time. This is normal and part of the character of the steel. Hand wash and dry promptly after use, and periodically apply a light coat of Camellia oil to protect against moisture and corrosion. This knife includes a specification card, detailed care instructions, and a bottle of Camellia oil to help you properly care

for your new knife.

This is a thoughtfully built kitchen knife, made to be used, appreciated, and passed along. Each knife is one of a kind, and this piece is no exception.
